Construction firm bucks bad news with best year ever

Despite the economic downturn's negative impact on the construction industry, 2008 was for Yorkshire's Redworth Construction a record-breaking year with turnover increasing by 25% to £30 million.
Construction firm bucks bad news with best year ever
Thanks to its success in securing several big contract wins, Redworth is moving to new premises on its own £5 million development in Old Malton this year and is actively recruiting staff including quantity surveyors, contract managers and site managers.

“Our turnover target was £30 million for 2008 – and we achieved that,” said Howard Rogers, Redworth’s managing director. “We also have a healthy order book, with some projects not completing until 2010,” he said.

The managing director added: “As everyone knows, these are difficult economic times. But we are delighted to be bucking the trend and we continue to invest significantly in the company. We are especially proud to be a Yorkshire company which is winning contracts right across the UK in different sectors.” said Mr Rogers.

Current projects include: a £3 million contract to build 29 flats for the elderly in Penrith; a £6 million contract to build a 110-bed care home and 12 apartments in Cambridge; and a £3.8 million contract to build a specialised residential facility in Barnsley. At the same time, Redworth is working on its own £3.5 care home development at Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire and is actively seeking more sites to develop across the country.

Redworth has also won two new BUPA contracts: one in Southampton to build a 71-bed care home and one in Church Crookham, near Fleet in Hampshire, to build a 64-bed care home. The combined value of these contracts is more than £8.2m. Redworth are already building BUPA in other locations around the country.

A £1 million pound contract has also been won to build a day nursery in Bromley and a £2.8 million contract to build a 40-bed care home in Huyton has also been secured.

Mr Rogers added: “While we have established an excellent reputation within the care homes sector, we also have a growing track record of success within the child care and homes for and social housing sectors, too”.
