Birmingham heating contractor warned over delays

A heating contractor said to have kept more than 1,000 Birmingham council tenants waiting for boiler repairs has been told it has until the end of January to improve its performance.
The Birmingham Mail reports that the council warned the company that its £2.5 million, five-year contract will be torn up if results do not improve by the end of the month.

Housing department director Bob Brown is reported to have written to contractor Morrisons' managing director, Des Morris, saying that it is 709 properties behind on routine servicing, with 1,071 repair jobs outstanding.

The company is expected to deal with all services and repairs within seven days but at present is claimed only to be achieving just over 70 per cent.

Mr Brown warned: 'The contract will terminate unless you put forward an acceptable rectification programme or improvement plan within 20 working days.'

He added that the firm must ''rectify the default'' by the end of January.
