ABB launches energy calculator App

ABB has launched a free energy calculator application (App) for the BlackBerry.
ABB launches energy calculator App
The new Blackberry App complements ABB's existing iPhone Energy Calculator App and will allow end-users to calculate the energy savings they can achieve by installing variable-speed drives (VSDs) to control motors.

The App gives end-users the ability to make quick comparisons between motors controlled by VSDs and motors running direct-on-line without any speed control device. Users simply select their industry, the voltage, phase and motor power rating; running hours; and electricity cost. The app then estimates how much CO2 energy and costs can be saved by installing an ABB drive to control the application.

'Our App makes it simple for customers to calculate the potential savings they can achieve by installing variable-speed drives,' says Neil Ritchie, local business unit manager for UK & Ireland, low voltage drives. 'By installing a variable-speed drive it is possible to reduce your energy spend by up to 70 percent on a single application. The tool is free to download and makes selecting drives according to the needs of the application extremely accessible.'

Once all the parameters have been applied and the savings worked out, the App displays a picture of the most suitable drive for the user's application. For those interested in finding out more information, simply click on the 'Interested? Tap here' button below the savings and a product summary will be displayed. The end-user can then place an inquiry, request more information or email the details to a contact.

The App also allows you to measure savings in different currencies, including Sterling, Euros and US Dollars.
