Wolseley introduces workbook for new staff

Wolseley UK has launched a new Induction Workbook for staff development and customer service.
Wolseley introduces workbook for new staff
Covering a three-month period, the workbook has been launched as part of a structured induction programme to provide opportunities for everyone to develop within the company.

Upon joining Wolseley UK, every branch colleague at assistant manager level and below will be allocated a buddy to support them and take them through the induction workbook.

Buddies receive separate guidance on how to mentor the new employee. The new starter's line manager responsible for the induction is also sent an Induction Workbook Manager's Guide, to ensure that probationary reviews are held regularly and the programme progresses appropriately.

Short learning sessions, which can be undertaken at a pace to suit each individual's needs, give plenty of opportunities to ask questions, check understanding of key points and demonstrate knowledge.

Flexible sessions also enable buddies to focus on areas where employees would most benefit from training and challenges for the employee to complete are agreed at key milestones.

The workbook gives an overview of Wolseley UK's history, its health and safety policy and processes, and its commitment to customer service and customers. Short tasks encourage understanding and further research is prompted by asking employees to visit relevant websites, and learn about Wolseley UK's brands and RESPECT values.

The Learning Zone, part of Wolseley UK's refreshed Online Training Academy, its e-learning platform, plays a key part in the induction and every employee is allocated core courses to complete, along with ones which are relevant or useful, such as specialist product knowledge courses.

A final three month review completes the induction period, when the employee receives a Career Workbook to help them continue with their professional development.
