ELLIS Training Works has recently gained approval from City & Guilds (C&G) for a new course: City & Guilds 2081 - Split Air Conditioning System Installation & Commissioning.

The qualification is designed for those already working with split air conditioning systems or those who would like to get involved in this rapidly growing sector.

The course will enable candidates from the heating and ventilating, plumbing or electrical trades to cross-train while enhancing their skills and gaining necessary knowledge in the sector.

Candidates will learn to:

Plan an installation and carry out necessary minor building works

Fabricate, connect and fit pipework and insulation

Carry out necessary strength and leak pressure tests

Connect the electrical supply from isolator to units

Evacuate and dehydrate the installed pipework

Adjust refrigerant charge

Commission and test the installed system

Hand over system to customer

Candidates will also be sufficiently knowledgeable about the Building Regulation requirements and Competent Person Scheme
operators.

Ellis developed this qualification in response to the ever-growing demand for split air conditioning systems in offices, factory units and of course at home. It says that, in its experience, many contractors are considering diversifying into this area. This C&G will enable them to train staff to a standard where they can be confident that systems are installed and commissioned 'right first time'.

Split systems provide both cooling and heating, cost effectively and efficiently. For this reason, domestic heat pump systems are popular with conservatory owners.
