The scheme allows customers to earn money back against new, more eco-friendly stoves when they scrap their current one in order to meet upcoming legislation.
In 2022, the Ecodesign Directive is being introduced to ensure that all new stoves meet stricter emission tests. The stoves included in the scrappage scheme, from brands such as ACR, Charnwood and Arada, are Ecodesign-ready, meaning they meet the requirements of the legislation.
In order to take advantage of the scheme, customers must take their old stove to a British Metal Recycling Association (BMRA) accredited metal recycler. Upon presenting proof of scrappage, they will be eligible for 10 per cent cashback on their new stove.
Adam Leah, managing director of Direct Stoves, said: “There has already been a lot of talk around the emissions produced by wood burners over recent months, and that is set to intensify as the Ecodesign Directive gets closer. By 2022, all new stoves will need to meet these emission targets, and we want to help our customers be kinder to the environment in advance of that, while also having the opportunity to save some money.”
