Screwfix changes hours to British Football Time

Plumbing equipment supplier Screwfix is changing its hours to fall in line with BFT - British Football Time - opening at 6am on days when the England team is playing key World Cup matches.
The company is changing over to the new times on June 23 to coincide with the England match scheduled for 3pm that day.

Screwfix trade counters will open an hour earlier at 6am to enable tradesmen to extend their working day and work around the crucial match. A drive-in fast-track order and collection scheme will also be in place to avoid queues.

The last World Cup was held in Germany in 2006 and Screwfix saw a surge in customers early in the day as tradesmen sought to get their work done before matches aired.

Screwfix will be on red alert for the remainder of the football tournament. In the event that England makes the finals, trade counter hours will remain on BFT for any days on which an England match takes place during trading hours.

John Mewett from Screwfix said: 'Most of our tradesman customers are football fans who will be following the World Cup closely and there will be huge interest from many in England games. We'll remain open during any afternoon games to cover any emergencies. We're supporting football fans all the way and we would encourage other businesses to take our lead and change their hours to suit.'

This sounds like a good deal for the customers, but what about the staff who have to work during the matches?
