Installers still unsure how to calculate ErP ratings

The 26 September is fast approaching but it seems that many installers are still uncertain on how to calculate a system’s energy efficiency rating as part of the new ErP Directive.

The 26 September is fast approaching but it seems that many installers are still uncertain on how to calculate a system’s energy efficiency rating as part of the new ErP Directive.

A short survey conducted by Nu-Heat Underfloor Heating & Renewables shows that whilst most installers understand the purpose of ErP and energy labelling, over three quarters still do not feel confident in calculating and producing the required energy label for a system package to hand to their customer.

Over 80% also said that they feel ErP is making their job unnecessarily complicated, as they already advise their customers on product and system energy efficiency.

In response to this feedback, Nu-Heat has created a short instructional video to support installers in calculating a standard heating and hot water package energy rating and label themselves, without using any restrictive supplier tools.  Energy labelling – how to do it yourself, can be watched now via www.nu-heat.co.uk/erpvideo.

All an installer needs is the boiler and thermostat manufacturers’ product fiche, Figure 1 and Figure 5 forms (easy-to-follow versions can be downloaded from www.nu-heat.co.uk/erp) and access to a computer to generate the system label via the official EU website. It’s that simple!
