HVR Awards: final chance to win industry accolade

Whilst entries are now closed for those who will face the judging panel, due to popular demand the deadline for the voted for categories at this year’s HVR Awards has been extended to Friday September 1 2017.

The HVR Awards is set to return to London’s Chelsea Harbour Hotel on Thursday October 26 2017 to recognise and reward excellence and innovation within the building services sector, and organiser Datateam Business Media has granted companies and individuals within the industry one last opportunity to put themselves in the running for a highly coveted award.

The extension is applicable to the Customer Service Person, Wholesaler/Distributor and Trainee of the Year categories, which will be decided by an industry vote. The online entry and nomination forms only take a few minutes to complete. The awards are free to enter, and represent the perfect opportunity for employers to motivate and reward their workforce.

HVR editor, Heather Ramsden, commented on the importance of this kind of recognition: “With much discussion surrounding the skills gap, it is crucial that hardworking individuals within the industry are recognised. In particular, we need to encourage apprentices and trainees by showing them their value to the future of this sector and the vibrant nature of this industry.”

Entries are now closed for the remaining categories – Commercial/Industrial Ventilation Product, Commercial/Industrial Heating Product, Commercial/Industrial Air Conditioning Product, Sustainable Product, Sustainable Project and Contractor of the Year – and the winners will be decided by an expert panel of industry judges.

Meet the judges

This year’s judging panel is comprised of both returning and new faces, all of whom are distinguished industry figures with extensive industry knowledge and experience.

Martyn Cooper, commercial manager at the Federation of Environmental Trade Associations (FETA); Ross Anderson, director at the Industrial and Commercial Energy Association (ICOM); and Tom Garrigan, BSRIA test house manager, are returning to their posts after participating as HVR Awards judges in 2016.

Mr Cooper said: “I’m pleased to join the judging panel for the HVR Awards once again, and I look forward to reviewing the entries and seeing what innovations within the heating and ventilation industry have been put forward this year.”

Ross Anderson has been in the heating industry for over 50 years, with an impressive resume that has seen him working in engineering, holding high-level management roles and contributing to vital discussions on standards with both government and technical committees.

Mr Anderson commented: “I am pleased to judge the Awards again this year, as it is very interesting to see the innovative equipment being brought to the market and the passion that manufacturers have for their products.”

He continued: “The HVR Awards encourage companies to showcase their products and demonstrate how our industry is moving forward!”

The returning judges will be joined by the Building Engineering Service Association’s (BESA) membership director, Wayne Terry, and Steven Gill, HVACR consultant and group chairman for the CIBSE ASHRAE Group.

With a career built around compliance and certification, Mr Terry brings a wealth of experience to the building engineering services sector. As a membership director for BESA, he is passionate about sharing best practise and technical excellence, as well as promoting the importance of accreditation and compliance for all who work within the sector.

Mr Terry commented: “I am excited to be judging this year’s HVR Awards entries, as in an ever-changing environment we need to be constantly striving to introduce innovation, improvements and best practise into a sector whose work has such an impact on the safety and well-being of building occupants.”

Mr Gill is an energy efficiency and sustainability consultant specialising in the built environment. An active industry figure, he is chairman of the CIBSE ASHRAE Group, president of the Institute of Refrigeration, and a former winner of the HVR Awards Consultant of the Year award.

He added: “I am delighted to be supporting this event as a judge. The awards focus attention on the best in the HVAC industry and help to spotlight innovation and leading practice in the sector. As a working engineer myself, I feel that the HVR Awards are a wonderful opportunity to showcase just how good our industry is.''

As well as an impressive judging panel of respected industry figures, the 2017 HVR Awards also boasts an incredible line up of market-leading sponsors. The main sponsor, BESA, is joined by Albion Valves, Altecnic, Brymec, Conex Bänninger, Fujitsu, the HVAC & Refrigeration Show 2018, Marflow Hydronics, Smith Brothers Stores, Stokvis Energy Systems, Toshiba and Wilo.

Limited sponsorship packages are still available for those who wish to be involved with this year’s awards. For more information, visit www.hvrawards.com.
