HVR AWARDS 2022: The finalists revealed

The finalists have been announced ahead of the prestigious HVR Awards ceremony on Thursday 29th September at The Chelsea Harbour Hotel, London.

Judges are looking at 10 categories, the Commercial/Industrial Air Conditioning Product of the Year, Commercial/Industrial Heating Product of the Year, the Commercial/Industrial Ventilation Product of the Year, the Heat Pump Product of the Year, the HVAC Initiative of the Year, the Ancillary Product of the Year, the Domestic Heating Product of the Year, the Domestic Ventilation Product of the Year, The Net Zero Hero Award and the Collaboration of the Year.

Another four categories, including the Customer Service Award, the Training Initiative of the Year, the Wholesaler/Distributor of the Year and, new for this year, the Apprentice of the Year are being put to an industry vote. Voting is open now - go to www.hvrawards.com/vote/

The recipient of the highest number of votes or highest score from the judges in each category will be revealed as the winner at the HVR Awards ceremony taking place on September 29.

Meet the judges

• Duncan Sibbald, head of certification, BESA: Duncan has decades of experience running ventilation firms and been instrumental in the development of BESA’s Vent Hygiene Elite scheme. The scheme allows businesses to self-certify their specialist hygiene works to the required industry TR19® Specification and all current industry legislation. He has a successful record of working closely with facilities and building managers across a wide range of industries, helping them to operate to the highest standards.

Kevin Wellmann, chief executive CIPHE: Kevin Wellman joined the CIPHE as a technical assistant in 1985 in a role to support and develop a number of technical initiatives and activities. Rising through the ranks, he served as operations director for a number of years prior to taking on the chief executive role in 2011. As well as his work at the helm of the CIPHE, Kevin is a key collaborator in industry affairs. He sits on the WaterSafe Board, the Education and Technical Committees of the Worshipful Company of Plumbers, and represents the Institute on numerous committees and working groups of a number of professional engineering organisations. In 2013 Kevin was appointed to the Executive Board of the World Plumbing Council. 

TJ Ducan-Moir, management consultant with Business Glu: With 30 years’ experience in HVAC and construction TJ established her business; Business Glu, at the beginning of lockdown and has since been awarded an MBE for her services to Female Entrepreneurship and Business Recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. She has focused on helping rebuild companies in the East Midlands which have been in danger of closing due to the coronavirus pandemic. Using her many years of experience, TJ, who is also a qualified mediator, identifies difficulties as well as opportunities, and fixes problems within her clients’ companies.

Steve McConnell, director of ICOM: Steve has spent the whole of his working life in the plumbing and heating industry, starting as an apprentice plumber in 1984.  He eventually specialised as a service engineer with a major UK commercial boiler manufacturer before focusing on overseeing the product management and technical support function for another leading boiler and water heater manufacturer.  In this role Steve served on BSI and ICOM committees. In November 2020 Steve was appointed director of the Industrial & Commercial Heating Equipment Association (ICOM) which is a member organisation working to engage in all aspects of heating related activities.

Martyn Cooper, commercial manager, FETA: Martyn joined FETA in May 2015 after a 37-year career in the plastics and chemical industries working in various departments including development, sales and marketing as well as a number of commercial roles. He has experience in the sales and marketing of refrigerants and as part of his current position in FETA he manages the Heat Pump Association, and several groups in the refrigeration, HEVAC and chimney associations across FETA.
