For the first time, CORGI has a register of persons competent to handle a Main Equipotential Bonding (MEB) circuit and a new course will help installers get on this list.
Currently, if a gas meter requires moving, a trained electrician must be brought in to modify the MEB circuit, which can be inconvenient, time-consuming and expensive to the customer.

To save time and money, installers will be trained up in this area thanks to Logic Certification. The firm has developed MEB1, a training package for gas operatives with appropriate ACS training.

The one-day MEB1 course from Logic Certification, gives candidates with minimum qualifications of CCN1 (core gas safety) and MET1 (domestic natural gas meters), or CMA1 (core for meter installers), under ACS, the necessary skills to safely undertake this operation.

Logic Certification is the only certification body approved by CORGI to deliver it.

Paul Collins, senior technical officer electrical, from CORGI said: 'Together CORGI and Logic Certification have created a course that will ensure an appropriate level of safety and knowledge for any installers involved in the repositioning of an MEB circuit. The competent persons register held by CORGI will put an end to this task being carried out in an unsafe manner.'

Based in Northolt, Logic Certification is a certification body for training providers in the UK, focusing on heating, ventilation, plumbing and electrical training requirements.

Mark Krull, of Logic Certification said 'The MEB1 is set to provide massive benefits to utility providers, their contractors and consumers. By completing the course, installers will be able to offer a full service, increasing their revenue stream whilst reducing timescales and costs.'

Approved by the Meter asset Manager's code of practice (MaMCoP), the training consists of a practical assessment workbook and a multiple-choice exam.

Training is offered at any Logic Certification training centre with some centres able to offer on-site training at a contractor or utility provider's premises.
