Fire at Calorex destroys 20% of production

Calorex Heat Pumps says it will be back in full production within weeks after a fire completely destroyed one of three buildings at its UK headquarters.
The blaze at Calorex HQ in Maldon, Essex, destroyed 20% of the heat pump supplier's manufacturing capacity with one third of its total warehousing facilities lost.

Production in the main factory resumed on February 22. Within a week a nearby warehouse was rented to replace the lost facilities.

No one was injured.

A spokesman for Calorex said:'The 140-strong workforce was briefed on the day after the fire and told that it was Calorex's expectation there would be no job losses as a result of this first ever fire loss in the company's 34-year history'.

Calorex management confirmed it will continue to manufacture its range of heat pumps and dehumidifiers in Maldon.

'We want to assure our customers that lead times will be maintained' said Richard Carrington, Calorex managing director.
