Energy Management: Heat of the moment

With their large surface area, radiators offer the perfect answer to those seeking energy and cost savings from renewables, says Chris Humphries

The emergence of renewable heating systems has led to significant energy-saving developments in heat emitters such as radiators.

Renewable energy-driven heating systems typically operate at a DT (Delta T) of 30 deg C compared with conventional boiler-driven systems which operate at around DT 50 deg C.

A heating system generating lower system temperatures requires a larger surface area from the heat emitter to provide a comfortable room temperature.

However, this doesn't necessarily mean you need a huge expanse of radiators. With modern technology, there are other ways of providing the surface areas required.

Implanted in footprint

The larger surface areas offered by vertical radiators and triple panel, triple convector radiators mean they can be 'implanted' within the footprint of traditionally sized radiators and more heat can be emitted more efficiently from a lower temperature, lower energy consuming heat source.

And, by doubling or tripling the number of panels, it is possible to achieve higher heat levels from smaller radiators.
