A cancer sufferer working for Elta Fans has trekked 10 miles for charity -less than a month after undergoing surgery.
Phil Warner, national sales manager of the West Midlands-based building service division of Elta Fans, was diagnosed with bowel cancer earlier in the year.

After a course of chemotherapy followed by surgery at Sutton Coldfield's Good Hope Hospital, Warner pulled on his walking boots to trek 10 miles across country around Lichfield, Sutton and Tamworth for charity on October 17.

Warner , who lives near Lichfield, is on the road to recovery from cancer and decided to take part in the charity walk to raise funds for the St Giles Hospice and the Not Forgotten Association.

Warner admitted: 'It was tough going but I did it partly to prove to myself that I could do it. My wife Tina joined me on the walk, supposedly to keep an eye on me, but I was more concerned about her as she ended up doing more than seven of the 10 miles in only her socks.'

Phil raised well over £400 from his colleagues at Elta and contributed from his own pocket to make it up to £500, with the charity walk raising some £2,100 in total.

David Osgerby, the managing director at Elta Fans, which offers fans and related air movement equipment, said: 'To take on something like this less than a month after his second surgery is a testament to Phil's fighting spirit and we wish him all the best in his ongoing recovery.'

The St Giles Hospice in Whittington is close to Phil's heart as it nursed a friend of his who passed away. The Not Forgotten Association (set up at the end of the Great War) provides entertainment for disabled service men and women injured in conflicts around the world.
