BARMA, the Boiler and Radiator Manufacturers' Association, has appointed John Colling as its new chairman.
Mr Colling is marketing director of the Ideal Stelrad Group and is also chairman of BARMA's subsidiary organisation MARC, the Manufacturers Association of Radiators and Convectors.
He has 40 years' experience in the industry, and takes over from retiring chairman Brian Powell, who has held the post for 20 years, since 1991.
Founded in 1941, BARMA was originally known as the Cast Iron Heating Boiler and Radiator Manufacturers' Association until it changed its name in 1969.
The association was formed to look after the interests of installers, helping to beat the delay in supply which came about as a result of foundry capacity rationing during the Second World War. National priorities were centred upon the production of engine blocks for tanks and Spitfires for the war effort.
Mr Colling said: 'It is a huge honour to become chairman of BARMA in this, its 70th anniversary year, following from the excellent leadership Brian has given us during his time in the post. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Brian on behalf of the members who have benefited from his experience and input.
'This is a very interesting time for the industry, as we face competition from manufacturers of competitor products, as well as raw materials prices which continue to rise and the slowdown in the house building sector, but I look forward to working with members, as we move forward.'
