Law firm Brodies has been appointed the sole legal adviser in Scotland to the Heating and Ventilating Contractors' Association (HVCA).
The firm, which has offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, will advise HVCA members on a range of matters, including a fixed price adjudication support service.
Brodies claimed it was chosen to be HVCA's Scottish representative due to its proven track record and expertise in construction and engineering dispute resolution. Its construction team regularly represents construction sector clients in adjudications, arbitrations and 'mainstream' commercial litigation in the Scottish Court of Session and Sheriff Courts.
Manus Quigg, partner in Brodies' Construction & Engineering Group, said: 'The current economic climate brings very real difficulties for contractors in securing payment and we will be working hard with HVCA to deliver a cost-effective service to its members.'
The HVCA's plan to change its name to the Building & Engineering Services Association (B&ES) from 1 March 2012 will not affect the relationship with Brodies.
HVCA has almost 200 member companies in Scotland who have a combined turnover of around £400 million.
In addition to the advice and guidance offered by its own in-house legal team, HVCA has engaged a panel of six law firms across the UK to provide a range of legal services (including the adjudication support service).
