Eight young engineers have made the shortlist for the CIBSE/ASHRAE Graduate of the Year awards.
This year sees the largest number of shortlisted candidates for over 10 years, which CIBSE and ASHRAE says reflects the rising standard of entries received in recent years for this accolade.

The 16th annual award's will also see the presentation of the IMechE Construction and Building Services Division award, and will be followed by a lecture from the society's president Ron Jarnagin. All of the finalists will give a short presentation to the judging panel at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), London on Thursday, October 6. The winner will be selected for their potential to serve as an ambassador for young engineers at the ASHRAE conference.

This year's first prize is a trip to Chicago for the ASHRAE Winter Meeting with cash bursaries from the Rumford Club presented to two runners up. The occasion will also see the presentation of the IMechE Construction and Building Services Division annual award and will be followed by the ASHRAE Presidential Lecture given by the Society's president Ron Jarnagin visiting from the US.

Mr Jarnagin is also a member of the judging panel alongside Andy Ford, president of CIBSE, Rod Smith, President of IMechE, and last years award winner Mick Gardner of Pick Everard. The panel, chaired by CIBSE/ASHRAE group chairman Professor Tim Dwyer, must decide which of the finalists shows the best combination of communication skills, knowledge and enthusiasm.
