Future plumbers inspired with hands-on training at Stephenson College

Conex Bänninger is continuing to champion the benefits of press-fit technology by taking its national training campaign directly to the next generation of installers. As part of this ongoing initiative, the company visited students at Stephenson College – part of the newly formed Loughborough College Group.

Students aged 16 and 18 were given a practical, hands-on demonstration of Conex Bänninger’s popular >B< Press system, learning how to create a secure, permanent, leak-free joints. The fitting is designed for use across a wide range of applications, including heating systems, hot and cold-water installations, and gas installations, giving students valuable exposure to modern industry practices.

The training sessions were delivered by Kevin Goodison, regional technical sales manager at Conex Bänninger, who worked with two separate groups of learners – those studying for a Level 1 Plumbing Diploma and those on the Level 2 programme.

Commenting on the visit, Kevin said: “It’s great to visit a college like this one and meet enthusiastic students who really want to develop their skills. Many tried their hand at using >B< Press and found it quick and easy to use.”

He added: “Today’s youngsters are feeling the pressure of finding a career in an increasingly difficult job market. However, there continues to be a growing demand for plumbers and electricians, and developing practical skills on courses like those provided at the College are invaluable in providing a springboard for a worthwhile future career.”

The visit was made possible after members of the College met the Conex Bänninger team at the InstallerSHOW at the NEC in June, where they discussed potential training opportunities with Lisa Cox, UK National Sales Manager.

Sian Johnston, careers and industry placement co-ordinator, welcomed the training session, saying: “The College offers a wide range of vocational courses, with plumbing and electrical programmes being among the most popular for students who want to build a career in these trades. Alongside these specialist programmes, Stephenson College also delivers vocational and T-Level courses across a wide range of trade, technical and service sectors. Opportunities like this give our students invaluable insight into the real-world skills employers are looking for.”
