That’s one small step for an engineer, one giant leap for building services

Technological innovation for BIM-based technical insulation specification compliant with BS 5422.

BIM-aided (Building Information Modelling) design of HVAC and process industry installations has become standard for professionals specifiers throughout Europe. However, PAROC takes the management of a development project to a whole new level by introducing the first ever tool which enables intelligent, fully automated selection of the insulation solutions for the project, compliant with BS 5422.

The tool works as an extremely useful and easy to use plugin for Autodesk Revit®, a popular software for model-based building designs and documentation. As opposed to other currently available solutions, the system overlay does not confine itself to merely adding solutions from the ready-made product libraries to 2D and 3D sheets. Designing HVAC and process industry installations has probably never before been so easy – from now on all it takes is only one click to automatically add proper insulation solutions and dimensions, in compliance with applicable technical requirements and regulations.
– Up until now, architects, specifiers and designers working with BIM had to spend a lot of time on each and every single installation component, taking its diameter, type of material, temperature of the transported medium and a number of other important criteria into account – says John Watt, National Specification Manager HVAC Systems at Paroc Ltd. – In case of complex systems, what could have taken even a few hours until recently, is now almost as easy as snapping your fingers – he adds.
In mere seconds, the intelligent algorithm establishes and applies a complete insulation system that meets thermal conductivity requirements for central heating and hot water pipes, HVAC equipment and high temperature industrial installations. Of course, it is also possible to choose solutions which exceed the technical requirements – all it takes is a few clicks to assign custom insulation parameters to all of the elements and import them to the geometrical model of installation.
