Tropo wins Yorkshire heat pumps contract

Tropo, the renewable energy subsidiary of Henry Boot Construction, has won a contract to provide heating and hot water using ground source heat pumps to domestic properties in North Yorkshire.
Tropo will supply and install the pumps to 17 homes in Sherburn, West Heslerton and Ganton near Scarborough for Yorkshire Housing.

The project aims to reduce the impact of the houses on the environment and cut residents' energy bills. Tenants will get an upgrade to their existing radiator and storage heater systems, with the heating demand of the properties matched correctly to the size of radiators installed.

In a full operational year the pumps should make savings of up to £800 and a reduction in the carbon footprint of 4323kg of CO2, based on an average home's consumption rates.

Work is already underway on the project and is expected to take 11 weeks to complete.

Gary Toomey, regional manager for Henry Boot Construction, said: 'We are delighted to be working with Yorkshire Housing on this project. They are committed to sustainable development principles, both in terms of creating stable communities and in promoting energy efficient homes, which have a low environmental impact.'

Richard Bould from Yorkshire Housing said: 'The ground source heat pumps, together with improved insulation, mean we can provide even more of our homes with the highest energy efficiency standards possible.'

'This is supporting our tenants by providing warm homes with a sustainable and affordable method of heating. This project demonstrates Yorkshire Housing's commitment to providing great homes for tenants and reducing the impact of fuel poverty.'
