Training hub launched for self-isolating heating & plumbing engineers

A new content hub with free training resources for existing and aspiring plumbers and heating engineers has been launched to help those that are currently not working or are self isolating.

David Holmes, founder at Boiler Guide

The guide has been published by Boiler Guide following enquiries from its network of heating engineers across the country for training materials and the demand for new workers to enter the profession.

Research from the Gas Safe Register suggests that over half of the UK’s current cohort will retire within the next 10 years so it’s critical that major installers and networks continue to invest in apprenticeships and training opportunities to attract younger staff for the future of the sector.

Not only does the guide include trade-specific skills such as an ‘Introduction to Plumbing Tools and Drawings’ and ‘Understanding Drainage and Water Distribution Systems’ modules, it also includes free business-specific guides for those who want tips on how to run their business.

For those who want to learn how to promote their business to potential new customers, a range of free digital marketing modules through Google and training courses are available alongside accountancy and customer service sections.

David Holmes, founder at Boiler Guide, said: “We recognise it is a really tough time for installers across the country and we wanted to create a resource that could provide useful advice and support for those that are stuck at home and want to develop their wider skills.

“This guide provides an array of free resources that can teach you something new about your trade-specific skills, or if you just want to learn some new ways on how to grow your business. It doesn’t matter if you have been working in the trade for a few months or a few decades!

“Now is also a great time to be encouraging school leavers to be thinking about heating engineering as a possible career option and I hope these resources could provide a little taster into some of the skills of the job.”

Some of the resources in the guide such as the Moz Academy digital marketing courses (usually costing up to £170) are only available until the May 31 so it’s worth taking a look as soon as you can.

Carbon reductions for northern arena

Rinnai hot water systems are projected to produce ‘significant’ carbon reductions at a huge indoor arena in the North of England. The company has produced a designed system based on its R290 high-temperature heat pump. This arena regularly hosts large events such as concerts, conferences, theatre plays, exhibitions, live music and other conventions – so the site must have an energy efficient and carbon-reducing hot water system to achieve NetZero.
