Bosch sets store by Nordair-Niche

Bosch, the global kitchen appliance and tool manufacturer, has no concerns about safeguarding the quality of its white goods while in storage at its brand new 400,000m² warehouse in Kettering, Northants.

Two Nordair-Niche IDF19 floor-standing warm air heaters, positioned at either end of the new facility, are automatically controlled to protect against frost that can penetrate the building and damage product in very cold weather.

The building is a state-of-the-art distribution warehouse, one of the largest such facilities, with roof heights of 15-18m. White goods are stored here prior to delivery to retail outlets nationwide. The goods are floor mounted, so there is no racking to impede the flow of air around the interior.

The Nordair-Niche heaters each have a heat output of 300kW and can achieve 18m³/s airflow. A Trend computerised control system allows remote operation of the heaters, which can be set to fire up automatically.

In cold spells the heaters will warm the building to around 16°C. However, they are programmed to kick in as soon as the temperature drops to 5°C, preventing frost damage to the goods. The heaters operate on an air rotation principle - the heater draws in cooler air at floor level and discharges it at high level across the building, producing an effective mix with the warmed air and forcing it down to lower levels.

The result is a gentle airflow pattern, displacing high level hot air and returning it to floor level to provide automatic temperature destratification. Heat is distributed evenly, both horizontally and vertically, without the need for costly ductwork or high-level fans. The system also captures heat from lighting and other sources, recirculating it to low level to reduce energy consumption.
