Fläkt Woods make a splash with fore street pool refurbishment

As part of a fast-track refurbishment and modernisation scheme at the Fore Street Swimming Pool in Ipswich, Fläkt Woods was awarded a contract by ISG Jackson via Ipswich Borough Council, to install a new HVAC system.

The popular pool, which is the second oldest operational swimming pool in the country and first opened in 1894, was closed during the 12-week project, which commenced on the 17th August 2009.
Fore Street is the first pool to be regenerated under a £4 million investment master plan in local swimming facilities, which the council, under its Team Ipswich banner, is using to promote the town and its impressive leisure amenities to international teams requiring a training base for the 2012 Olympics.
The scheme sees Fläkt Woods install a brand new HVAC system, including AHU and smoke extract plant.  Due to the restrictions of the site, all the products had to be installed from kit form.
Flakt Woods site services also supplied and installed a full package of ductwork to swimming pool specifications, ensuring the environment for swimmers and spectators was brought right up to modern expectation, a challenge in itself for a building that is now over 100 years old.
Andrew Knight, Service Manager for Flakt Woods, comments; "Flakt Woods has been proud to play a significant part of the overhaul of this iconic facility.  Our involvement and expertise in swimming pool applications, and the delivery of major installations and refurbishment projects on site has allowed us to provide a system that ensure the future of this facility for many years to come.”
Continues Andrew “The clever use of energy saving technology in the new HVAC system will ensure energy is recovered wherever possible, helping to save public money and carbon emissions.  We hope the work that has taken place will promote Fore Street, as a recognised training facility for local swimmers competing to participate in the 2012 Olympic Games.”
