Smedegaard Launches the New MiniFlexx

The MiniFlexx is part of Smedegaard's BoostAFlexx family of variable speed drive break tank packaged booster sets. MiniFlexx combines a high performance cold water booster set and break tank in a very small space, whilst at the same time providing ease of operation and maintenance. The design of the package provides full WRAS compliance for any application requiring type AF and AB air gaps.
The MiniFlexx range consists of a single or twin pump set and break tank fully packaged on a common base plate. The pumps are of stainless steel construction and are each factory fitted with a variable speed drive to give a constant pressure. The control of the pumps is via a pressure transducer installed in the discharge manifold. The break tank is constructed from tough and durable WRAS approved materials and is fitted with a high quality WRAS approved high flow solenoid valve to ensure a rapid make up giving a constant water supply from the booster set. The break tank is designed to limit air ingress into the pumps due to water turbulence.

MiniFlexx booster sets are available in either single or three phase incorporating pump run, low water and common fault volt free alarm contacts. All units incorporate high/low pressure alarm, dry run protection, auto change-over, fault history, protection against high/low voltage, over current, inverter overheat, communication error.

For ease of use and set up the integral variable speed drives have a digital interface. The display shows the output frequency, actual pressure, pressure setting, output current, transducer error, high/low pressure, low water, drive error.

Booster Set Selection
Once the required pressure and flow rates are known then the decision as to the operation of the set and, therefore, the sizing of the pumps has to be made. The MiniFlexx booster set is available as a single or twin pump set. The twin pump sets are capable of operating duty/assist. It would seem the most cost effective option to select the pumps in duty/assist arrangement to each supply 50% of the required flow, however, the importance of ensuring a water supply must be considered. Some applications will require a standby pump capable of supplying the full duty if one of the pumps were to fail, this arrangement would be 'duty/ standby'. Option limiting factors may be the size of the pumps available with the MiniFlexx and also the electrical supply, therefore two pumps sized to operate duty/assist may be the only option. A real benefit of the MiniFlexx is that the unit will operate duty/assist regardless of whether the pumps are sized for duty/ assist or duty/standby. A further consideration for pump sizing is the flow capacity of the incoming water supply, although the MiniFlexx package includes an 85 litre nominal break tank the mains water supply needs to be adequately sized to keep up with the pump.
