Partnership to develop heat pump water heater

Thermal energy storage specialist Sunamp has signed an agreement with Chinese partner Jiangsu Gomon New Energy to move forward with manufacturing and commercialisation of a heat pump water heater based on Gomon heat pumps and on Sunamp high energy-density, high power-density heat batteries.

Maurizio Zaglio, international business development manager at Sunamp, with trade and investment minister Ivan McKee and Gomon chairman Chaohong Fan.

The signing ceremony took place in Shanghai and was attended by Scottish Trade and investment minister Ivan McKee, Mr Chaohong Fan, chairman of Gomon, and Maurizio Zaglio, international business development manager at Sunamp.

The new agreement marks progress after the two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) earlier this year to develop the new product aimed at consumers globally who care about home comfort, efficiency and the environment.

Mr Zaglio said: “We are delighted that our partnership with Gomon is successfully moving forwards at a great pace. We are now one step closer towards licensing and manufacturing a transformational new product using our unique, clean energy thermal storage technology which will enable householders worldwide to improve efficiency and cut carbon emissions associated with generating heat and hot water.”

Mr Fan said: “This contract is the next stage for Gomon in the field of phase change energy storage products and has far-reaching significance. As well as promoting Sunamp’s technology in China and opening up the vast Chinese market, it will also trigger the expansion of Gomon’s product range and will further raise our profile worldwide. We look forward to complementing each other’s strengths and sharing success during our collaboration with Sunamp.”

Speaking about the growth of Scottish businesses in China as part of his visit to the country, Mr McKee said: “There is huge potential for Scottish businesses to leverage the significant opportunities arising from China’s fast-paced developing industries. My recent visit to China was an opportunity to further promote the best of Scotland and help to deepen the long-standing links that exist between our two countries. There is no doubt that Scotland punches well above its weight in terms of international brand recognition and cultural influence - making the most of these strengths is key to our future prosperity including opportunities for our businesses.”
