An inspector call: HEVAR heavyweight calls for more inspectors

Mike Nankivell will speak at Manchester HEVAR 2009 (January 28-29)
Mike Nankivell will speak at Manchester HEVAR 2009 (January 28-29)

Industry veteran Mike Nankivell will be wielding the mike at Manchester HEVAR to highlight the need for more inspectors to carry out air conditioning inspections.

Space Airconditioning's Mike Nankivell said "Air conditioning inspections are a legal requirement under the EPBD (Energy Performance in Buildings Directive) and by January 2009 all air conditioning systems with a rated output greater than 250kW are supposed to have been inspected (little chance of this being practical). And by January 4, 2011 the first inspection of all air conditioning systems with a rated output of 12kW must have occurred (also a tall order!)"

The Directive represents an opportunity for engineers to become accredited inspectors - the more inspectors, the more likely the ambitious targets can be met.

Mike Nankivell said "When business is tight, this is possibly another string to their bow. Engineers could be adding to their portfolio of business opportunities".

Mike Nankivell will speak at HVAC exhibition Manchester HEVAR (January 28-29, 2009), which is hosted at Lancashire County Cricket Club, Old Trafford.

His seminar, scheduled for 12.45 on January 29, will outline the Directive, explain the objectives, detail the inspection process, identify the type of problems that an inspection could reveal and explain how to become an inspector.

Mike Nankivell is marketing and business development manager of Space Airconditioning. He is also chairman of the ACRIB (Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Industry Board) F-Gas Implementation Group. A qualified engineer turned marketeer, Mike’s career in the HVAC industry spans well over 30 years, almost half of which was spent with Carrier Airconditioning as applications and training manager, latterly he became responsible for the corporation’s marketing in the UK. He joined Space Air nine years ago.

Mike Nankivell added "As you may know I have presented seminars at Manchester Hevar for several years and have been happy to do so".

As well as a full seminar programme, the latest HVAC technology from the industry's key players will be on show at Manchester HEVAR 2009. Attendance to the exhibition is free. To register your attendance click here
