Navigator began collecting food in mid-November asking colleagues and their family members to donate items on the Foodbank’s ‘wanted list’. By 7th December it had collected 315 kgs of food and toiletries to deliver to the Foodbank in Bedford to help ensure local people who needed support could have a decent Christmas.
Navigator’s Hannah Salton said: “We were surprised at how much we were able to collect, yet what was more surprising was the eye-opening figures of people using the Bedford Foodbank and the fantastic work the volunteers there do. We were delighted to be told that the goods we had collected for them would help feed around 750 people – that’s really making a difference – and doing so locally within a stones throw of our base in Sharnbrook.”
Over 90% of the food distributed from foodbanks in the Trussell Trust network is donated by the public – that’s why all these food donations are so vital to the Foodbank’s ability to give everyone referred to the Foodbank a balanced and nutritious three-day supply of food. Anyone wanting to make a donation can drop their donations off at a list of food donation points you can find on the website at https://bedford.foodbank.org.uk/give-help/donate-food.
