Join the CARE Construction Challenge

Aid and development agency CARE International is calling for construction workers to join the CARE Construction Challenge on 2 July to tackle global poverty.
Join the CARE Construction Challenge
The challenge will see teams from all levels of the construction industry join together for a demanding day of activity in Cannock Chase, Staffordshire.

Each team member will cover a marathon on bike, canoe and foot. There will also be mystery challenges to solve along the way, plus a bonus stage for the most competitive teams. The day will culminate in well-deserved meal and celebration.

The challenge will be run by CARE's in-house Challenge Team to raise funds to support the charity's overseas work. CARE works in 87 countries, helping some of the world's poorest people find routes out of poverty.

Twenty two teams have signed up from across the construction industry, including Balfour Beatty, KOREC, BAM Nuttall, Jacobs, Costain, Gha Livigunn, Westoak Construction, University of Bristol, Ridge, D.J.Goode and Associates, Capita Architecture, RDG Engineering and Unions Square.

Along with NCE and Union Square, Costain is supporting the event this year as part of their 'Costain Cares' business initiative, which aims to create greater economic, environmental and social value.

Costain have entered five teams of four, one enthusiastic team leader, Rosamund Parker said: 'I wanted to take part in the CARE Construction Challenge to raise funds for a great cause related to my field of employment. The money raised will help vulnerable communities around the world through projects such as providing emergency shelter and reconstruction after war and natural disaster. The challenge is also a chance to have fun and be active, with a bit of healthy competition thrown in!'

Through a variety of fundraising events, including a five-a-side football tournament, Ms Parker's team is set to raise £4000 for CARE. These funds would enable CARE to restore a whole village's water infrastructure in Pakistan following the floods that devastated lives last year.
