ICOM Energy Association and OFTEC have been working closely to develop an assessed course (OFT10-201) covering the servicing and commissioning of two and three stage oil-fired pressure jet burners

The assessment is designed to ensure operatives are up-to-date with regulations and can demonstrate the correct procedures for combustion analysis and commissioning/servicing of commercial pressure jet oil appliances of heat input between 50kW to 2MW. Those who complete the course successfully can then register with the OFTEC Competent Persons Scheme, giving their companies significant competitive advantage.

UKAS, the United Kingdom Accreditation Service, has approved the contents of the course.

Developed in response to industry requests, the course covers large multi-stage burners as are often fitted in light and medium commercial appliances. It is assessed through a mix of theoretical and practical elements, ranging from health and safety through to oil storage & supply and practical servicing and commissioning.

OFTEC training manager, David Knipe, added: “Feedback from technicians and training centres suggests there will be considerable demand for the new course as heating businesses look to take advantage of opportunities in the commercial sector. The OFT 10-201 course is closely linked to the requirements of OFTEC’s multi-stage pressure jet oil appliance registration and we are pleased that our work with ICOM Energy Association has reached this successful outcome.”
