BSRIA extends UKAS scope with HIU testing

BSRIA has extended the scope of its United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) accredited testing services, which now include the latest version of the BESA UK HIU Test Regime, October 2018.

The accreditation follows the announcement that BSRIA became a BESA-approved laboratory in accordance with the above mentioned standard in October, as well as BSRIA attaining UKAS accreditation to the December 2016 version of the test regime in January of this year.

The timing of the accreditation fits neatly with the release of the District Energy & Network Components study this month by BSRIA’s WMI department. The study highlights the latest updates and developments in district heating and cooling, along with the components of heat networks – both in the energy centre and the distribution network – including heat interface units and heat meters. These entail detailed segmentation, evolving technology, forecast, market share information and main drivers. It focuses on seven strong markets: the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Russia and China.

Tom Garrigan, business manager at BSRIA Test House, said: “Further extending the scope of our UKAS accreditation ensures we are fully compliant with the latest requirements to carry out testing in accordance with the October 2018 version of the BESA UK HIU Test Regime.

“This testing activity dovetails neatly with our other product testing, consultancy and market intelligence services, whilst also meeting the growing demand for increased laboratory based performance data and market data for this technology type. We are delighted to be able to offer this extended service and look forward to working with new and existing clients.”

HIUs extract heat from district heating networks to feed individual buildings and dwellings. How they perform is central to the overall efficiency of the heat network in a district heating scheme. The standard was developed to help developers of UK heat networks procure HIUs based on comparative performance data.
