AECOM completes work on Liverpool ferry terminal

Engineering consultant AECOM carried out all building services and structural design work on a striking new ferry terminal in Liverpool.
AECOM completes work on Liverpool ferry terminal
Cantilevered on two sides, the two-storey building is clad in limestone blocks to compliment the new Liverpool museum and it is expected to achieve a 'Very Good' BREEAM rating as one of the most environmentally friendly of its type.

AECOM project manager, Stuart Taylor, said: 'The building replaces the old, out-dated terminal and is a welcome addition to the waterfront. It is an iconic building which will provide tourists and visitors with an excellent facility from which they start or complete their journey on the world famous Mersey ferry.'

A Variable Refrigerant Flow heat pump system provides heating in the winter and cooling in the summer. The building also has a recycled rainwater system for plant watering and flushing toilets.

Natural ventilation is achieved by automated window opening to take advantage of free cooling when permitted. All building services are fully integrated into the building management system and displayed on an LCD panel in the foyer.

The ground floor terminal contains a café, restaurant, shops, waiting areas and easy access to a landing stage. The second storey of the building has a large exhibition area and access to a viewing deck looking out on to Canada Boulevard, the 'Three Graces' and the recently completed Leeds/Liverpool canal dock link.

This is a truly ugly and unimaginative building.

I for one would not admit to having any part in its construction
