20% hydrogen blend supported by Adveco Water Heaters & Boilers

Adveco, the hot water specialists for commercial projects, announces its ranges of ADplus and AD condensing gas water heaters, and MD gas boilers are all hydrogen 20% blend ready without modification.

As we head towards 2050, decarbonising commercial properties currently falls under two broad UK-wide strategies. Either widescale adoption of heat pumps under a high electrification scenario, or replacement of natural gas in the existing gas grid with low-carbon hydrogen.

For those organisations currently on gas, operation remains more cost-effective than moving to direct electric systems but does not deliver a clear sustainability investment. Opting to use hydrogen to decarbonise comes with a number of advantages, given the equipment remains familiar to operate and manage, and does not require major refitting of system components. This should ensure capital costs remain lower, while decarbonisation can be accelerated within a property.

The question remains as to how quickly, where and in what proportion hydrogen will be introduced into the gas grid.  The ultimate aim is to introduce 100% green hydrogen via the existing gas network with a potential national roll-out predicted for the 2040s. As an interim, the UK is assessing the potential for introducing hydrogen by the late 2020’s as a blend at 20% volume with natural gas to deliver a safer, greener gas alternative that reduces carbon emissions.

Adveco currently offers a range of high efficiency, ultra-low emission gas-fired condensing water heaters and boilers. The instantaneous ADplus and semi-instantaneous AD water heaters, as well as the MD boiler range, are all hydrogen 20% blend ready without the need for any modification prior to or after installation. These give customers peace of mind when investing in gas-fired water heating applications today.

The latest generation of appliances from Adveco deliver advanced burner technology and rugged titanium stainless steel construction of the heat exchangers that ensure optimal operation and longevity with ultra-low carbon and nitrogen oxide emissions. For models with multiple heat exchangers, smart balancing helps reduce operational costs, further extends the life of the appliance, and provides built-in redundancy to ensure there is no downtime for business-critical demands of domestic hot water (DHW). This ensures Adveco’s ADplus, AD and MD will continue to operate well into the 2030s while delivering on the desire to decarbonise operations in the most cost-effective manner as hydrogen blending becomes commonplace.

Adveco’s proven technology provides a practical, future-proof choice today with a clear path to the adoption of future generations of proven 100% hydrogen appliances as the gas network matures and greens.
